Focus Verses: Psalm 119:133-136
133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. 134 Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey your precepts. 135 Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your decrees. 136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed.

Insight:
How much power does sin have in the world because people do not know or disregard God's word? How much of the oppression in the world is in direct opposition to God's precepts and will for humankind? How many of the difficulties and frustrations in my life are the outcome of my failure to love and obey the direction of Scripture? When God's word is ignored, streams of tears are bound to come.

Response and Action:
I want to know and follow God's word. I recognize that knowing the truth and living by it makes a difference. I want to learn and follow the precepts of the Lord and be part of God's redemptive and healing work in the world.

O God, make your face shine upon me and teach me your ways! May my footsteps be directed by your Word. Give me a heart to obey your commands. Though many may choose to ignore you, give me the wisdom and will to walk in your ways. Through Christ, I pray. Amen.

Spiritual Formation Verses: James 1:22-25
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
